How Do Lottery Players Use Lotto Number Patterns?

I started more than two decades ago analyzing lotto histories. Today, I am more convinced than ever that any lotto player can increase his chances of winning the lotto by studying lotto number patterns. The existence of lotto number patterns and trends is no longer in contention. They are not a secret. Anyone can use them to their advantage. In fact, in all games of chance, patterns and trends are there. Taking advantage of them is called playing the odds and those that do it well are called professional gamblers.

Previously, I’ve shown how serious lotto players create a reduced play list by removing weak or underperforming numbers from play. See my article ‘How Do Serious Lottery Players Play the Lottery?’ This is one way the player can significantly increase their chances of winning the lotto.

Just making such a statement causes some critics and skeptics to become unglued and accuse me of just about everything short of raping the queen. Paraphrasing Shakespeare, “The skeptic doth protest too much, methinks.”

The basic thread of their discontent goes something like this: Just because a lotto number had a dry spell doesn’t mean that dry spell will continue. After all, it’s a random game.

Hamlet said it best. It appears that the critic is ‘hoist with his own petar’. Today’s lottery equivalents of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have miscalculated again. They have misapplied a long term analysis to a short term game.

Lottery Number Persistence

This is rare, but I agree with the skeptics and critics. In fact, mathematics supports their position. Over the long haul, such lotto number patterns and trends will not continue. But, here is the part they either missed or don’t understand. For the lotto, the long haul is tens of thousands of years and the short term is our lifetime.

So, as a practical man and a serious lotto player, my focus is the short term; my lifetime. And, in the short term, lotto number patterns persist for months and even years before the inevitable pendulum swings back the other way. This is called Persistence and it is easy to see it at work in every lottery.

I tend to be a pragmatic sort. So, upon finding something that will increase my chances, I don’t necessarily need a mathematical formula to back it up. You don’t have to understand exactly how something works in order to take advantage of it. People still drive their cars everyday without understanding the underlying mathematics that describes how their tires work.

Lottery Number Patterns

Persistence looks like this. In a previous article, I found that in the Lotto Texas 6/54 lottery the number 45 was a good candidate to remove from your play list. This wasn’t a random choice. It was a decision made because of the numbers past performance; a pattern; a trend. Over many thousands of years, all 54 lotto numbers in Lotto Texas will hit on the average of every 9 drawings. So, let’s see how lotto number 45 has performed in the short term.

Good lottery software makes it easy to answer questions like this. In the 335 drawings from 4/26/06 to 7/8/09 this is what happened to lotto number 45.

To begin with, it didn’t hit for 37 drawings in a row. Later, it didn’t hit for 18 drawings in a row; then 19 drawings. See the trend? See the lotto number pattern? Now, some would say you should ignore what is right before your eyes because, after all, it’s a random draw. They would not take advantage of this lotto number pattern because they have fallen into the trap of their own making.

But, if we were professional gamblers and played the odds, this is how well we would have done.

Later, lotto number 45 didn’t hit for 29 drawings in a row. The critic only considered this a fluke. Then it didn’t hit for 43 drawings in a row. The critic still sticks to his guns. Then it didn’t hit for 36 drawings in a row. Now, the critic is concerned that he forgot to put bullets in his gun. Then it didn’t hit for 24 drawings in a row and then another 20 drawings after that. The critic is looking for cover. Then, most recently, it didn’t hit for 39 drawings in a row!!! Someone, call the police. We have a missing critic. This lotto number pattern (the one that critics and skeptics insist does not exist) has persisted for 335 drawings. That’s 3 years and 3 months! The phrase, ‘Persistence pays off’ comes to mind.

The next embarrassed words from the critic’s mouth will probably be, ‘Unfair. You set us up! You cherry picked Lotto Texas because it supports your theory.’ No, I didn’t chery pick a lottery. I didn’t have to. No, this article is not staged. I could have used any lottery. This isn’t T-Ball my friend. I didn’t set this up so I could easily hit it out of the park. Lottery number patterns like this exist in every lottery, everywhere! I could have used any lottery to make my point. For proof, just look at any lottery. Simply buy yourself some good lottery software, choose any lottery and check it out.
